Thon Rights/Atlas/Thailand/Sync
Thailand outline
Sync & advertising music in Thailand
TV / digital ads and brand films need synchronization of the composition plus master use — usually negotiated with publishers and labels. MCT café licences do not clear a national commercial. Multi-CMO Thailand still applies if the finished ad also plays in public venues.
- Number / status: Sync is deal-based. Thon will not invent a national THB sync tariff. Clear composition + master in writing; venue CMOs are a separate cell if the ad also runs as public performance.
- Who to pay: Publishers / writers (often via MCT or direct) · Labels / master owners · Venue CMOs (MCT / Phonorights…). Keep the invoice / licence in the premises’ name and address.
- Not this: A final invoice from Thon · legal advice · collecting for CMOs. Verify before you wire.
No public tariff yet — Sync is deal-based. Thon will not invent a national THB sync tariff. Clear composition + master in writing; venue CMOs are a separate cell if the ad also runs as public performance.
Who to pay
- Publishers / writers (often via MCT or direct) — Synchronization of the musical work
- Labels / master owners — Master use for the recording
- Venue CMOs (MCT / Phonorights…) — Only if the finished spot also triggers public-performance in shops — separate from sync
Proof — what to keep
- Sync licence (composition) with territory / term / media
- Master use licence
- Agency / advertiser clearance trail with the campaign files
Legal basis
- Copyright Act B.E. 2537 — economic rights
- Contract + individual CMO practice where relevant
Sync ≠ café MCT
Paying MCT for a restaurant does not clear a YouTube / TV commercial. Sync is negotiated rights; public-performance is another door.
Brand owns the trail
Advertiser or agency usually keeps the licences. Desk can read a term sheet — we do not collect for Thai societies.
