Malaysia live

Background music in Malaysia venues

Malaysia is three doors for recorded music: MACP (works) + PPM (recordings) + RPM (performers). Not Indonesia’s single LMKN window, not Vietnam’s VCPMC+RIAV pair. MACP alone is never the full bill.

Three things to remember
  1. Number / status: MACP restaurant/café mechanical music (tariff window cited on MACP site for 1 Apr 2026–31 Mar 2027): first 50 seats RM896.24 + RM8.96 per extra seat — authors’ works only. PPM and RPM publish separate tariffs; add those before budgeting.
  2. Who to pay: MACP · PPM · RPM. Keep the invoice / licence in the premises’ name and address.
  3. Not this: A final invoice from Thon · legal advice · collecting for CMOs. Verify before you wire.

Who to pay

Proof — what to keep

Legal basis

Three doors, not one

Live band without backing tracks may be MACP-only. Spotify/TV/karaoke recordings usually need MACP+PPM+RPM. Indonesia’s LMKN collapses collection nationally; Malaysia does not.

Not Vietnam maths

Do not convert NĐ 17 m² × hệ số đô thị into ringgit. MACP uses seats/capacity bands; other bodies use their own units.

ART pressure

U.S.–Malaysia reciprocal-trade IP commitments raise the cost of ‘we only paid one society’. Keep all three proofs.
